North Dakota, nicknamed The Peace Garden State is located in the north and central part of the United States. It was the 39th state to be admitted to the country, and it borders Canada. The state is famous for Native Indians, fertile soil, the Badlands and cold weather. There are many exciting things to see and do in North Dakota, as millions of tourists visit the state each year.

North Dakota is home to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Theodore Roosevelt, the nation’s 26th President, was known for being a conservationist. The park, which is in western North Dakota, was named after the President. You can enjoy camping, fishing, canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, cross-country skiing and much more. There is a fee for each vehicle that enters the park, and many dining facilities are nearby. Make sure you check the weather conditions before you go to the park. There is a possibility of severe thunderstorms during the summer and blizzard conditions during the winter.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park, North DakotaFor a beautiful and scenic view, you can drive through the Turtle Mountains, which are in the north central part of the state. The mountains consist of gorgeous lakes, wildlife areas and stunning wildflowers. You will also see a plethora of wildlife. Hiking, fishing and camping opportunities are plentiful, as well as biking and motorcycling.

North Dakota is rich with history; therefore, you will want to visit the state capitol while you are there. The grounds of the capitol building, located in Bismarck, is home to historical statues, the governor’s mansion, a museum, memorials and hiking trails. Tours are available, which can be a very educational experience.


While in Bismarck, you should take your family to visit the Dakota Zoo. You can see wild animals, and there are nature trails. Some of the animals at the zoo include tigers, alligators, bison, reindeer, elk, wolves and many more. The zoo consists of a playground for kids, and a petting zoo is available. Kids can feed goats, donkeys, pigs, horses or chickens. A train runs also through the zoo. Hours of operation will change depending on the time of year, so make sure you check to make sure it is open before you go.

North Dakota is one of the most rural states in the country and provides many fabulous things for tourists to see. Traveling to North Dakota will be an unforgettable and breath-taking experience.
