Asuncion Paraguay

Asuncion is the capital of Paraguay as well as its largest city. The country’s principal port is also located within this city. It is also one of the oldest cities in South America, which has caused it to be called “Mother of Cities”.

This city was founded in 1537 by Spanish settlers. After it was founded, Asuncion became a center for Jesuit missionaries. Colonists eventually became hostile towards the missionaries and expelled them in 1767. In 1811 the colonists declared their independence from Spain. While Asuncion, like the rest of Paraguay, was once isolated and discouraged visitors, it has become increasingly welcoming to tourists and travelers.

Asuncion is home to multiple museums and historic sites, which are a great way to experience the city’s culture. The Museo del Barro is full of art that was made in Paraguay. Here one may find a great collection of pieces from local craftsmen and indigenous communities. Travelers may also want to visit the Casa de la Independencia. This is the site of Paraguay’s declaration of independence and was also where the colonists planned the revolution. The house has been made into a museum with décor that would be common in 1811.

Travelers that are interested in nature should visit the Botanical Garden and Zoo. This attraction houses many interesting local and exotic species. Three museums are also found at this attraction. An indigenous, historic, and natural history museum may be found at this place.

Those that would like to view Asuncion’s architecture may want to visit Rivera Square. This square consists of eight houses. This area allows one to observe colonial and neo-classical architecture. The square is the cultural center of the city, so events and art exhibitions are commonly found in Rivera Square.

The Paraguayan Train Station is a great attraction. This train station allows visitors to take a ride on a steam engine that is over one hundred years old. Travelers will be able to observe the local landscape and architecture as well as some of the small towns near the city.

Asuncion, Paraguay is a city that is full of history. This city allows travelers to experience life in one of the oldest cities in South America. The culture and architecture of Asuncion is unforgettable.
