As you know, I spent my formative years In northern Italy. My maternal aunt has owned a seaside apartment in the neighboring town of Chiavari. Each summer, when we visited, Santa Margherita was a favorite destination of ours for a day trip, from Chiavari. I still have the old black and white photos of me as a child of 7-8 years old, sitting seaside with a necklace of roasted  hazelnuts (from the Ligurian hills), adorning my neck: the  typical purchase for any tourist visiting the area.
