 Milan, Italy is a city with the perfect combination of historical culture and modern delights. The city is filled with wealthy businesspeople, high fashion couture houses and a lively fashion scene, culturally creative art houses and some of the best restaurants and hotels in Europe.

 The City of Milan is located in the Milan province, within the Lombardy region. The city itself has a population of over 1, 3000,000, and entire province includes over 3,000,000 citizens. In the beginning, Milan was originally inhabited by Celtic people, until the Romans defeated them and claimed the city for themselves. At one point in history, Milan was part of the Austrian Empire, until it was blended with two other kingdoms of the time and became a province of Italy.

 Economically, Milan does exceptionally well, with a lucrative automobile industry, popular designer fashion houses that in turn have brought in multiple media advertising businesses. In addition, banking and financial firms do exceptionally well here. In fact, Milan is the 26th wealthiest economy in the world when measured by purchasing power. The Fiera Milano is the largest furniture and design show in Europe, featuring the latest and greatest in ultra fine furnishings. Valentino, Gucci and other Italian designers have their fashion houses located in the city of Milan. As you can imagine, some of the best high fashion boutiques and couture shops are located in Milan, creating a luxurious shopping destination.

 

 The city's historical architecture, churches and religious monuments are a good reason to take the time to sightsee when in Milan. The Basilica of St. Ambrogio, located in the center of Milan, is the oldest and one of the most beautiful. Every year Milan celebrates their particular saint, St. Ambrogio, during Patron Saints Day, which actually runs for 2 days. The city’s central square is called the Piazza del Duomo. It is surrounded by extraordinary architecture and historically significant buildings such as the Royal Palace of Milan and the Milan Cathedral.

 When visiting Milan, Italy be sure to notice the mild temperatures. Most seasons in Milan, Italy are mild and only require a light sweater. Winter can be chilly, and occasionally heavy fog occurs because of its proximity to the mountains. Summer can bring high humidity, but it's easy to cool off in one of Milan's luxury hotel swimming pools. Spring and fall are popular times of the year to visit because of the mild, pleasant weather.

Getting to Milan Italy is made easier with one of 3 airports serving the city, The largest Malpensa Airport is 40 kilometers away from the city center. Orio al Serio International Airport is a short 3.7 kilometers from Bergamo located at the foot of the Italian Alps and Linate Airport at 7.8 kilometers from downtown Milan.
